I had recently seen pastel done on black suede mat board and knew that I wanted to give it a try. I also had some wonderful separate reference pictures of black swans and white swans and had planned on putting them together into a painting and so "On Peaceful Pond" came to be. Yes, there could be a message there! This piece is a bit more abstract than I usually work, but I am pleased with the result.
My love of art dates back to childhood. As a child and teen, I never went anywhere without my bag of "drawing stuff" -- pencils, pens, charcoal, paper and magazines for reference photos. I took all the art classes I could in school. However, as often happens, the demands of family and life took over and, unfortunately, I found very little time to devote to it for many years. It was never far from my mind, though. Ultimately, I reached the point several years ago where I could not exist another day without art in my life. With great joy and encouragement from my family, art began to play a significant role in my life once again. This time around, I began to explore color, with pastels and colored pencils becoming favorite mediums. ...
